Terms of Service

These are the terms that govern your use of DadOS — the iOS app and the mydados.com website. Please read them. They're written to be understandable, not intimidating.

Note: This document is provided in good faith but is not legal advice. DadOS recommends consulting with a lawyer for your own legal needs.

The short version (plain English)

  • DadOS is for adults (18+) only — parents and caregivers. Not for children.
  • The AI Coach is a helpful tool, not a therapist or crisis service. In an emergency, please call 911 (US/CA), 999 (UK), or 000 (AU), or contact a crisis line like 988 (US) or Samaritans (UK: 116 123).
  • Your content stays yours. We just need a limited licence to actually run the service.
  • We're in beta — the app is provided as-is. We'll do our best to keep things running, but we can't make ironclad guarantees about uptime or results.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading the DadOS app, creating an account, or using any part of the DadOS service (including the mydados.com website), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use DadOS.

2. Eligibility

DadOS is intended for adults aged 18 and over who are parents, step-parents, caregivers, or anyone in a parenting or caregiver role. By creating an account, you confirm that:

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are using DadOS for yourself, as an adult, in a parenting or caregiving context
  • You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement in your jurisdiction

DadOS is not for children. If you are under 18, please do not use this service.

3. Account Responsibilities

When you create a DadOS account, you are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login credentials secure and not sharing your account with others
  • Ensuring that all information you provide is accurate and up to date
  • Any activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us promptly at hello@mydados.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts where we have reason to believe credentials have been compromised or terms have been violated.

4. Acceptable Use

DadOS is a tool to support you as a parent. We ask that you use it in good faith. You agree not to:

  • Use DadOS for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
  • Post or transmit content that is abusive, harassing, threatening, defamatory, obscene, or that promotes violence or discrimination
  • Attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the service, or circumvent any security measures
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the DadOS app
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access or interact with the service
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your identity
  • Use the service to send spam, unsolicited messages, or commercial communications
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service or its infrastructure
  • Access the service for the purpose of building a competing product

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, at our sole discretion.

5. AI Coach — Important Disclaimers

The Ask Coach feature uses artificial intelligence (OpenAI's GPT-4 API) to generate responses to your questions. There are some important things to understand about this:

Not professional advice

The AI Coach is not a therapist, psychologist, counsellor, medical professional, or legal adviser. Its responses are for general informational and supportive purposes only. Nothing the AI Coach says constitutes professional medical, mental health, psychological, or legal advice. Do not rely on it as a substitute for professional guidance.

Not a crisis service

If you or someone you know is in crisis or danger, please contact emergency services or a crisis line immediately:

  • US: Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911 for emergencies
  • UK: Call 116 123 (Samaritans, free, 24/7) or 999 for emergencies
  • Canada: Call or text 988 for mental health crises, or 911 for emergencies
  • Australia: Call 13 11 14 (Lifeline) or 000 for emergencies

AI limitations

AI-generated responses can sometimes be inaccurate, incomplete, or contextually inappropriate. Always apply your own judgement. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any AI Coach response.

Your coach conversations

Your conversation messages are sent to OpenAI's API and are stored in our database. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

6. User Content

Ownership

You own the content you create in DadOS — your journal entries, coach conversations, memories, debriefs, and anything else you add to the app. We make no claim of ownership over your content.

Licence to us

By using DadOS, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, and display your content solely for the purpose of operating the service for you. This licence lasts only as long as you use the service, and ends when you delete your account or the content in question.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for the content you create and for ensuring it does not violate any applicable laws or third-party rights. We do not actively monitor user content, but we reserve the right to remove content that violates these terms.

7. Intellectual Property

The DadOS name, logo, app design, website content, and all associated materials are the intellectual property of DadOS. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our intellectual property without our express written permission.

Nothing in these terms grants you any rights to use the DadOS brand, trademarks, or logos for any purpose other than as required to access the service normally.

8. Subscriptions & Payments

DadOS is currently free during the TestFlight beta period. We intend to introduce optional paid subscription tiers in the future. When and if we do, the following will apply:

  • Paid subscriptions will be offered through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple's standard terms apply to all purchases made through the App Store.
  • Subscriptions will auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled. You can manage and cancel subscriptions through your iPhone's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
  • Prices will be displayed clearly before any purchase is required.
  • Refunds are handled through Apple in accordance with their policies.
  • We will give you reasonable notice before transitioning any currently free features to paid tiers.

We'll update these terms with specific pricing details when paid tiers are introduced.

9. Disclaimers

DadOS is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

  • The service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any specific time
  • Any results obtained from using the service will be accurate, complete, or reliable
  • Defects in the service will be corrected
  • The server hosting DadOS is free of viruses or other harmful components

We are in active beta development. Features may change, break, or be removed. We appreciate your understanding and feedback.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, DadOS and its founders, officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of data, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of — or inability to use — DadOS.

Our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of DadOS shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the claim, or (b) $100 USD.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability, so some of the above may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless DadOS and its affiliates, founders, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your use of DadOS; (b) your violation of these terms; or (c) your violation of any third-party rights.

12. Termination

You may stop using DadOS and delete your account at any time. Account deletion removes your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your access to DadOS at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these terms, engaged in illegal activity, or pose a risk to the service or other users.

Upon termination, provisions of these terms that by their nature should survive — including disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and governing law — will continue to apply.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware.

Nothing in this clause limits any rights you may have under the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email or in-app notification.

Your continued use of DadOS after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. If you disagree with a change, you may stop using the service and delete your account.
